Created On Purpose for A Purpose | Daily Devotional

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2: 8-10

Every breath you take is God’s reminder that you are here for a purpose. Many of us go through life seeking our purpose, looking high and low, and still cannot find it. The confusion, the doubt, and the angst send us to classes, therapy, job hopping, and more. We seem to be all over the place. We do things just to do it and then sometimes we do nothing at all. Many of us see others living in their purpose and question, how did they find it? How did they get to where they are now?

As believers, we are to fully surrender to the Lord and that can be scary. Sometimes we don’t hear God telling us where to go or what to do and like many people in the Bible, we try to help God by doing it on our own. This adds to the confusion, the doubt, and the angst. So the question is, the good works that we are supposed to do, where it was planned long before we were alive, is what exactly? Especially since verses 8 and 9, say that we are not saved by good works but yet, God made us for good works.

These good works aren’t just going to church, tithing, or doing ministry. That’s good too, but there is more! As Christians, when we get saved, our lives begin to change especially if we are reading and studying the Bible, attending church, and increasing our prayer life, these things connect us with the Father. When we spend intimate, quality time with Him, then we begin to look and act like Him. Our Father is compassionate, gracious, loving, forgiving, and so many other amazing things. If God shows this to us, we should desire to be these things for others.

There are many scriptures that talk about good works

  • “And purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” Titus 2:14.
  • “In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works.” Titus 2:7.
  • “To obey, to be ready for every good work.” Titus 3:1.
  • “That those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works.” Titus 3:8.
  • “And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.” Titus 3:14.

Enduring word commentary says, “These good works are valid evidence that someone is walking as one of God’s chosen.” Your good works show in how you treat others, how you share the love of Christ, your behavior, and your actions. It’s how you walk with Christ, how you speak to others, and how you REACT!! It is the love of Christ in you that allows you to love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Matthew 22:36-40 NIV says, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

So there is the worldly version of your purpose and the purpose God has given to you before you were born. When you walk in God’s purpose, you will walk in your purpose. You were created for this, on purpose for a purpose.

Prayer
Father God, thank you for creating me, you call me a masterpiece, and you have given me a purpose to walk in good works. I pray that my lifestyle reflects the love I have for you in how I connect and love others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
