Have you ever found yourself praying fervently for something, believing in faith for God’s provision, only to be faced with options that seem like the answers to your prayers but feel just a little off? Recently, I had one of those moments. I made a video sharing this revelation, but I wanted to go a little deeper here. It’s something I believe many of us experience when we’re on the right path with God—the moment when the enemy tries to send us dupes of what we’ve been praying for.

The Moment I Knew I Was in God’s Will

It all started when I was in a season of deep prayer and seeking God’s direction for my life. I was praying for clarity, for doors to open, and for God’s perfect will to be revealed in a specific area. As I waited, I noticed that I started receiving opportunities, relationships, and situations that, on the surface, looked like they were what I had been praying for. They were shiny, convenient, and tempting, but something in my spirit didn’t feel at peace.

That’s when it hit me—I was exactly where God wanted me to be, and the enemy knew it.

The Enemy’s Dupes: Shiny, But Empty

The Bible tells us that the enemy often disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). He presents things that seem good, but when you look closer, they are hollow and lead us away from God’s best. In my situation, these dupes were so close to what I had prayed for that it almost felt like they were the answer. But God reminded me that He doesn’t just give us good things, He gives us the best things, and His timing is always perfect.

When I started to notice the lack of peace in these situations, I knew the enemy was trying to derail me. He wanted me to settle for less than what God had planned, to take a shortcut, or to accept something that wasn’t from God’s hand. But when we’re truly in the will of God, we can recognize the counterfeits.

How to Recognize the Counterfeits

  1. Lack of Peace – Even though things may seem good, if you don’t have peace, that’s a major red flag. God’s blessings come with peace, even in uncertain circumstances. The enemy’s offers, on the other hand, often come with confusion, anxiety, and doubt.
  2. Impatience – The enemy preys on our impatience. When we’re tired of waiting, he’ll offer something that seems just good enough to make us stop trusting in God’s perfect timing. But waiting on God is never wasted time!
  3. Compromise – Often, the enemy’s dupes come with compromise. You might have to lower your standards, bend your values, or step outside of what you know God has called you to. God will never require you to compromise your integrity or your relationship with Him.
  4. Distraction – If the opportunity pulls you away from your focus on God, it’s likely a dupe. God’s will for us always draws us closer to Him, not further away.

God’s Best Is Worth the Wait

The enemy’s dupes can be enticing, but I’ve learned to trust God even more deeply in these moments. The counterfeit may look shiny, but God’s promises are full of life, purpose, and peace. When we stay aligned with His will, He gives us something far better than the dupes the enemy throws our way.

If you’re in a season of waiting or discerning what’s from God and what’s not, I encourage you to keep your eyes on Him. The enemy wouldn’t bother sending counterfeits if you weren’t walking in God’s will. Trust His timing, His provision, and know that His best is always worth the wait.

Have you ever encountered a dupe in your faith journey? How did you recognize it? Share your story in the comments—I’d love to hear how God has guided you!
