Reclaiming Those Special Days

Be sure to check out the last post about Dinner for One in my Thriving after Divorce Section.

I don’t know about you but I like looking on Facebook where they show you,  “This Day in History.” I love seeing my past posts, pictures and friends that we may have forgotten about. Helps reconnect with those who has shared in your experiences. I usually post mostly positive things, quotes, places I have been great selfies and more. But it is those days and moments that were once special that now turn to a sad memory. Take for example, today is October 13, 2015 and 3 years ago today I had my wedding.

So I am scrolling down looking at my  wedding photos, people tagging me saying congratulation, blessings, etc. I actually am not as sad as I could be. I had an amazing wedding. Everyone said it181212_548893712068_1538420738_n was the most beautiful. I let my ex-husband win on doing a foot washing ceremony and it turned out so lovely. I HATE FEET! And I had to touch those bad boys… in my tight wedding dress. Anyways, it was beautiful. I walked down the aisle to Anthony Hamilton’s And the Point of It All- my favorite. People from all over were there witnessing this blessed and joyous event. I was so
happy.

So here it is as I go down memory lane, I was like how do I take this day back. What are some ways to have a new memory attached to this day? Anniversaries are huge, birthdays, first’s, deaths and more. They hold memories and smells and songs- things are always reminding you and me of a fond or sad memory. This is something for me, ways to reclaim those special days and maybe this can help you.

How today started:
Woke up and of course reached for my phone. Scrolling through my social media. Then there was FB and I was reminded of what day it was. Unbothered, well maybe just a little bothered, I decided to post on FB, ” Today in history 3 years ago I had my wedding… Today I uncelebrate that! Not a word I know… Lol huge learning experience. Oh and if y’all have those events in your today in history , y’all do not have to share it. Thanks. Well moving right along… Happy Tuesday. Check out my blog”  I got some sweet encouragement and messages.

I was getting ready for work blasting Spotify and then God started comforting me through song,

And I was so moved. These words played all day! I was already on a high from my first periscope called, “6 Ways How I Got My Life After Divorce” be sure to check it out. What put me on that high was getting a message from a viewer who was moved and that she was excited that she caught it.

The Celebration:
I was talking with a friend and I let her know and she was like you have to take the day back. She said I needed to celebrate. I was like how? So I started coming up with some ideas of what to do. So I went home during lunch and decided to have ice cream with chocolate. If you know me, you know that little things mean so much to me.

Celebrate Divorce

The Finale:
Of course there is wine! And a car naming ceremony. So today on October 13, 2015 we named my new car “Boogie” not bougie but boogie like dancing! 🙂 I had my periscope family come up with names that would fit my little car and I am so excited.

I asked others what would be some ideas for Reclaiming Those Special Days and this is what they said:

  • Go and spoil yourself
  • Try something new
  • Try new restaurants and claiming it as your restaurant rather than “our”
  • Dress up and go out
  • Have a funky cocktail at a new bar
  • Send your ex a NICE thank you card
  • Go on a trip
  • Go to the spa
  • Do things that the ex would not do
  • Write a letter to your future husband and how they should treat you
  • Make a relationship time capsule to open 3 months into your future relationship
  • Photoshoot
  • Glamping- Glamorous camping

 Always remember:

Divorce is good

What are some ideas you think that would help? What are some other memories or days that would hold special feelings for someone?

Well thank you for reading. Please share, comment and subscribe if you haven’t already!
