Hey sis,
I recently spent some quiet time reflecting, journaling, and soaking in God’s Word, and I realized just how transformative journaling can be when it’s intentional and rooted in faith. Journaling helps us process the past, release what no longer serves us, and step into the new year with clarity, hope, and trust in God.
If you’ve ever wanted to journal but didn’t know where to start, this post is for you. I’ve put together a faith-based journaling checklist that will help you reflect on 2025, release what you need to let go of, and set your heart on God for 2026. Why Christian Journaling is Powerful
Journaling is more than writing down thoughts, it’s a way to cultivate spiritual growth. By intentionally reflecting on God’s faithfulness, we create a space for prayer, gratitude, and self-examination. It’s a creative practice that nurtures our relationship with Christ while helping us process life’s challenges.

Step 1: Reflect on 2025
Before stepping into 2026, look back on the year God brought you through. Use your journal to answer questions like:
- Where did I see God move in my life this year?
- Which prayers were answered, even in unexpected ways?
- What challenges or hard seasons did God use to grow me spiritually?
These reflections act as modern-day Ebenezers, reminders that “thus far the Lord has helped us” (1 Samuel 7:12). Writing them down strengthens faith and encourages gratitude.

Step 2: Release What No Longer Serves You
The new year is a perfect time to let go. Journaling can help you process and release:
- Habits or behaviors God is asking you to surrender
- Fears, anxieties, or doubts that weigh you down
- Past versions of yourself that no longer align with God’s calling
Use journaling to lay these things at God’s feet, trusting Him to carry what you cannot.

Step 3: Step Into 2026 With Intention
After reflecting and releasing, turn your attention forward. Ask yourself:
- What am I trusting God for in 2026?
- What kind of faith do I want to practice daily?
- What spiritual rhythms, prayer, Scripture study, or journaling, will keep me grounded?
Even a few minutes of intentional journaling each day can help clarify your purpose and cultivate a heart that listens for God’s guidance.

Step 4: Focus on Who You’re Becoming
Christian journaling isn’t only about what you do, it’s about who you are becoming. Consider:
- What fruit of the Spirit do I want to cultivate more deeply?
- Who do I want to love, serve, and encourage intentionally?
- How do I want my life to reflect Christ by the end of 2026?
This is the space for spiritual goals, identity formation, and faith-centered growth.

Step 5: Choose Your Anchors for the Year
Finally, anchor your reflection and intentions:
- Choose one word for 2026 to guide your focus
- Select one verse to return to whenever you need direction or encouragement
- Write one prayer to carry with you through the year, instead of a list of resolutions
These anchors provide clarity and help your journaling practice stay rooted in faith.
